City Nature Challenge 2026

Friday 24th April - Monday 27th April
The City Nature Challenge is a global event where people in over 500 City Regions worldwide work together to record as much wildlife as possible. It is a four-day bioblitz challenge, this year running from Friday 24th – Monday 27th April.
The University of Chester is taking part, and we want as many students and staff as possible to get involved!
Join us on our Exton Park campus with Chester Zoo on Friday 24th April, between 1pm - 3pm (flexible, drop in whenever) to upload observations of wildlife to the iNaturalist app/website. All of our observations will count towards Chester's position in the global and national leaderboards. Register your interest on Volunteer Hub to receive a reminder closer to the event. Meeting point: outside Grosvenor Accommodation, by the picnic benches.
There are three categories in the challenge:
- Number of observations made
- Number of species recorded
- Number of people taking part and making observations
Take a look at Chester's stats over the last 3 years! We came second in UK leaderboard last year which is an epic achievement!

The City Nature Challenge is organised globally by Natural History Museum Los Angeles County and California Academy of Sciences. The Chester Region City Nature Challenge is led by RECORD along with other partners. There are lots of other events taking place across the Chester region in the run up to the event as well as over the 4-day event. Check out RECORD's website for info on all other events you can take part in. You can also take part outside of an organised event, uploading observations from your garden or on your walk to the shops!
Come along to our event on Friday 24th April with Chester Zoo and spread the word!
