How to backdate volunteering hours
How to Backdate Hours:
This guide is for anyone who would like to backdate volunteer hours.
PLEASE REMEMBER BEFORE BACKDATING ANY VOLUNTEER HOURS:
- You can normally only record a maximum of 15 hours per day. This is to take in time for sleep and other personal activities.
- You can only record volunteering which was undertaken for a charity or a not for profit organisation.
- You can only backdate as far back as when you registered as a student with the University of Chester.
- You can only record training which was undertaken as part of a volunteer opportunity.
- You cannot record volunteering which you received academic credit for (what you needed to do as part of your course; i.e. WBL).

There are a couple of different ways to backdate hours. This guide will talk you through the quickest way, but you may wish to add each occasion you have volunteered for individually.
“I’ve got a lot of hours to upload from many different occasions”
If you have lots of hours to upload, or you have volunteered on many different dates, you may not wish to record each occasion separately. You can record these in bulk. The advantage to this is it’s a much quicker way of uploading your hours, but the disadvantage is that when you come to download the log of your hours, you will only see a record of the amount of hours you have recorded, and not the individual dates you have volunteered on.
For example:
Student A has volunteered as an Assistant Scout Leader for the last 2 years of their studies. As a volunteer with the Scouts, they have completed 408 hours of volunteering over 198 different occasions.
This has never been recorded.

- To record these hours, they would need to log on to the Volunteer Hub and click “log hours and skills” (this can be found on the right-hand side of your profile page on a desktop or via your phone by first selecting volunteer profile via the drop down menu and then scrolling to the bottom of the page).

- Once done, they would need to click on the type of volunteering they have taken part in (eg. in this case, “Add Community Volunteering”).

- A pop-up box should appear with the details needed (in the dates section, please add the start date, and end date if you have finished volunteering with them, however, if you are still volunteering for the organisation, please leave this blank so you can add future dates to this role).

- Once all the details are added click Add.
- Now the role is added, you can now click on "Add hours and skills"
- Click on “log hours”

- To backdate hours, add a random date (this can be any date during the time volunteered).
- The hours can now be added in blocks of 24 hours meaning student A would only need to do these 17 times as opposed to the 198 occasions they’ve volunteered.

- After each occasion click “Add”.
